Second year Godinez High School football coach Aron Kaye has established some goals for his Grizzly football team which is continuing summer workouts in preparation for the 2022 season.
“As always, there were several goals this summer,” Kaye said. “We are having a lot of fun as we install our package in all three facets of the game. Although not quite there yet, we are pretty close. The nice thing about summer is that we aren’t pressed for time like we are during the season, so if something isn’t quite right, we can take an extra day to get it right.
“Our players are slowly starting to understand the big picture, something that only comes with reps. Another big goal for us has been to continue the strength, speed and flexibility gains we have made over the off-season. Our student-athletes have done a really good job in the weight room and it’s been fun to watch our improvements. We are already starting to break some of our program’s weight room records.”
The seniors have led the way, Kaye said.
“We have a small group of seniors, but they have bought in to their leadership role,” he said. “Seniors Caleb Orellana, Maurico Martinez Max Pacheco and Anthony Solorzano all stand out as group who have done a very good job of learning and leading. We are going to be young this season, but our underclassmen are excited to be here and they understand that getting our program up and running is a pretty difficult but pretty cool thing to do.
“Sophomore Pedro Martinez and junior Alejandro Lopez have had very productive off seasons in the weight room and we looking forward to seeing it translate to the field. It’s been fun being back and again this year the vast majority of our coaching staff are alumni. It’s so good to see these men give back to our program and community. They are also enjoying giving me as much grief as possible and I’m loving every minute of it.”
Godinez was 0-10 last season under Kaye, who returned to lead the program he started.
The Grizzlies play their home games at Santa Ana Valley High School.
