Cox Communications and the Office of Councilmember Agran offer
a Free Tech Master Class for Adults Age 50 and Older
The One-Day Tech Master Class will provide older adults with an opportunity to advance their technology skillsets in a welcoming environment.
Cox Communications and the Office of Councilmember Larry Agran announce a free, one-day Tech Master Class for adults over the age of 50. This one-of-a-kind event was created as part of a larger effort to help bridge the “digital divide” among seniors. Located at the Lakeview Senior Center, this Tech Master Class will provide older adults who live in Irvine an opportunity to advance their technology skillsets, build competency, and remain connected. Participants can choose from one of two sessions, each in a low-stress, welcoming, and friendly learning environment.
When the COVID-19 pandemic began, seniors had to use and integrate technology in a way they hadn’t necessarily done before. To stay engaged and connected to the world, they were forced to learn and adapt quickly to a new way of communicating. With the necessary need to sharpen their tech skills, the digital divide among seniors was more apparent than ever.
“Cox is committed to continuously investing in our infrastructure and helping bridge the digital divide for people of all ages,” said Colleen Dillaway Market Vice President for Cox Communications in Orange County. “This Tech Master Class is just one example of how we’re meeting our consumers’ evolving needs. Attendees will walk away with practical information like how to make sure their WiFi is maximized in the home, and how to reboot their cable box. We’re proud to partner with the Office of Councilmember Larry Agran to create the Tech Master Class for Irvine seniors and equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to be fully immersive in our modern world.”
“I’m proud to be part of this initiative to help older adults to stay connected and improve their quality of life. A big thank you to Cox for their partnership and support,” said Councilmember Agran.
Affordable and accessible opportunities for seniors
When developing the Tech Master Class, it was important to both Cox Communications and the Office of Councilmember Larry Agran to create a space that was inviting and offered older adults a free and accessible means of advancing their technology skillsets. The Free Master Class will offer the following to Irvine’s older adults:
