The City of Cypress has posted online the campaign finance disclosure statements (“460s” and “497s”) for all the candidates running for City Council next month. Once the page displays after you click the link, you will need to scroll down to see the list of qualified candidates. Clicking on a particular candidate’s name will expand the list to display details about that candidate.
Orange County Breeze will analyze the finance information for all the candidates. We began the series with an article about David Burke because he happens to top the list on the City’s website.
We continue with the second candidate on the list, Bonnie Peat.
Simple analysis of donations
The first thing to say is that Bonnie Peat loaned her campaign $20,000. She also personally covered some campaign expenses, such as for a website. She is substantially self-funded.
Five individuals have contributed for a total of $1018.63. Four of the five individual contributions are $250 or less. A single individual contribution for $500 was received. Outside individual donations totaled $276.64. Donations from individuals living in Cypress totaled $741.99.
No groups have made contributions to her campaign, either cash or in-kind.
About campaign expenses
Expenses paid so far are what you would expect — group mailers and printing of campaign materials.
Among others, she chose to pay to be included in mailers targeting Republicans, budget hawks, seniors, public safety, and women.
One of the payments was to the Republcian Party of Orange County for $250.00, likely to be included on Republican campaign literature. To date, her total paid expenses are $9,259.23.
