
Huntington Beach – Emergency crews were on scene yesterday following reports of a helicopter crash in Huntington Beach, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.
At approximately 2:00 p.m., Huntington Beach Police officers responded to reports of a helicopter going down in the beach parking lot between Twin Dolphins Drive and Beach Boulevard.
HBPD and HBFD personnel immediately arrived on scene and contained the area.
- 2 people onboard the helicopter (both survived),
- 3 pedestrians injured on the ground,
- Total of 5 hospitalized.
Witnesses reported seeing the rotor fly off the tail before the helicopter spiraled and crashed into palm trees and a pedestrian bridge. Emergency crews responded quickly, and the FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause. The event continued as scheduled the following day.
The FAA and NTSB have been notified, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The helicopter involved was associated with the Cars ‘N Copters on the Coast event scheduled for today.

How Often Do Helicopter Crashes Occur in California?
While exact California-specific numbers are not always broken out, here’s what we know from U.S. helicopter accident data:
