Newport Beach, Calif. — At approximately 4:27 a.m., members of the Newport Beach Fire Department (NBFD), Costa Mesa Fire and Rescue (CMFR), and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to a reported structure fire at the Fairway Villas Apartments in Newport Beach.

Newport Engine 67 (NE67) was first on the scene, finding a single-story apartment complex with heavy smoke emanating from the central unit. Fire crews made an aggressive attack that quickly contained the fire to the involved unit, preventing any extension to adjacent apartments.

Two occupants of the affected unit were located in the rear patio area and received medical care from NBFD and CMFR paramedic personnel. Both individuals were transported to local area hospitals for further treatment. There were no injuries to any fire personnel on scene. In total there were approximately 40 firefighters on scene of the incident.

NBFD arson investigators are currently investigating the cause of the fire and remains under active investigation.

Additionally, the City of Newport Beach Building Department responded and has since red-tagged the unit involved due to significant damage.

This incident serves as an important reminder about the critical role of working smoke alarms in home safety. Smoke alarms provide early warning of fires, giving occupants valuable time to escape.
