Fatal hit-and-run in Long Beach at Pacific Coast Highway and Temple Avenue

On Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022 at approximately 8:29 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Temple Avenue regarding a subject in the middle of the roadway.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle that had fled the scene of the collision. Officers began assessing the pedestrian’s vital signs when the Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene and began life saving measures. The Long Beach Fire Department transported the pedestrian to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The pedestrian’s identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The preliminary investigation revealed a Chevrolet was traveling westbound Pacific Coast Highway when it struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian was crossing Pacific Coast Highway in a southeastern direction outside of any crosswalk west of Temple Avenue. The Chevrolet continued westbound Pacific Coast Highway, fleeing the scene.

The vehicle is believed to be a black Chevrolet sport utility vehicle.
