The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in partnership with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) will be conducting extended nightly closures on I-5 freeway Tuesday, Aug. 2 and Wednesday, Aug. 3, 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. between El Toro Road and Alicia Parkway. The closures are as follows:
- Southbound I-5 freeway closure, Tuesday, Aug. 2
- Northbound I-5 freeway closure, Wednesday, Aug. 3
- Detour signage will be in place to assist motorists
The purpose of the closure is to deliver and install 12 precast concrete girders. The girders are a structural component of the I-5 improvements at Los Alisos Boulevard and are roughly 126′ long, weighing almost 166,000 lbs. Because of the size and weight, a specialized crane will be used to place the girders. Please obey all posted signs and traffic instructions for the safety of all workers and motorists. See detour information below.
Caltrans appreciates the public’s patience while we perform this work. Electronic Changeable Messages Signs will notify drivers of the closure. The work schedule is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.
