Traffic management firm Econolite has launched Autoscope OptiVu, its latest AI-powered solution designed to improve traffic flow on roads and at intersections. This advanced high-definition video detection system accurately tracks vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians in real time.
The new camera and video processor offers precise object classification, full-screen tracking and traffic counts, enhancing overall roadway efficiency.
“Autoscope OptiVu is designed to provide superior detection capabilities and gather real-time traffic data in support of emerging predictive and Smart City applications,” said Sunny Chakravarty, Econolite’s vice president of engineering, in announcing the development on March 19.
“Autoscope OptiVu offers the most advanced detection algorithms with artificial intelligence and machine learning on the market today,” a company spokesperson told the Business Journal.
Some of the company’s notable Orange County customers past and present include the city of Anaheim, Caltrans District 12, and the OCTA regional public transportation system, according to Econolite.
The AI algorithms help to better detect, classify and track objects as they move, distinguishing, for example, passenger vehicles from freight/trucks from bicycles, as well as their trajectories.
In 2022, Econolite merged with PTV Group, a Karlsruhe, Germany-based software company for traffic simulation, planning and real-time management. Econolite President and Chief Operating Officer Abbas Mohaddes became chairman of the merged company that is now called Umovity.
Most Advanced Detection
Autoscope OptiVu provides the highest levels of high-definition video detection and real-time traffic data collection, according to Econolite.
The company’s detector systems also include Autoscope Vision and EVO RADAR above-ground sensors.
With its suite of detection sensors available, Econolite can work independently and collaboratively with other vendors to enhance data-driven ITS predictive efficiency and power safety applications.
160,000 Cabinets, Sensors
Its leading traffic management software has been installed by more than 500 agencies for traffic management across North America.
The company says it’s installed more than 160,000 “cabinets” holding the sophisticated equipment that controls traffic intersections. That’s also the number of sensors it says it’s installed.
In October, Whelen Engineering in Chester, Connecticut, announced a partnership with Econolite.
Whelen’s partnership with Econolite will provide enhanced “traffic preemption” features that empower police, fire, EMS and other fleets to request a green light upon approach, helping clear intersections and making emergency response and roadways safer.
