Cypress School District is pleased to announce that Rena Gibbs, Ed.D., has been named Curriculum & Instruction Administrator of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), Region 17.
Dr. Gibbs has been supporting the Cypress School District community since 2012. She served as principal at Margaret Landell and A.E. Arnold Elementary Schools before being appointed Coordinator of Curriculum & Instruction in 2018.
Dr. Gibbs promotes the success of all students by supporting a high-quality, evidence-based instructional program districtwide. Specifically, she coordinates all core and supplemental instructional programs, state and district assessments, teacher professional development, instructional technology, and English learner programs. She has also been instrumental in advancing the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Support which provides leveled intervention to address students’ academic and social-emotional needs.
During the pandemic, schools required an even greater level of support. Working with her team, Dr. Gibbs implemented new technologies and instructional platforms to ensure the effectiveness of the district’s educational program and uninterrupted student learning.
After learning she was the recipient of this prestigious award, Dr. Gibbs said, “It’s exciting to be honored with a recognition like this because it affirms the great work all of us in Cypress have done and continue to do for students!”
Cypress School District Superintendent Anne Silavs stated, “To be recognized by your professional peers for your dedication to students, staff, and community is the highest honor. The influence of Rena’s leadership on our district’s instructional program, especially during the pandemic, has been immeasurable.”
“Rena is committed to providing exemplary curricular resources that help us achieve our district mission of inspiring and empowering every student,” remarked Bonnie Peat, President of the Cypress School District Board of Trustees. “She is an outstanding asset to our district and has contributed greatly to the success of our students.”
For 50 years, ACSA has been recognizing outstanding public school leaders through its Administrator of the Year program. Dr. Gibbs will be honored for her accomplishments at the ACSA Region 17 Administrator of the Year and Celebration of Excellence Dinner on May 9, 2022, at the Irvine Marriott.
