Dr. Andy Dunn, vice chancellor of finance and administrative services for the Coast Community College District, retired on June 30, 2022. He entered his 12th year with the Coast District last October and has nearly completed his fourth decade of public service.
“The District has been fortunate to have had Dr. Dunn’s guidance during some of the most transformational years in our history,” said Coast District Chancellor John Weispfenning. “I thank Andy for his years of leadership and for leaving a strong foundation for our District’s future.”
Dr. Dunn’s 12 years at the Coast District were marked by recovery from the Great Recession, a massive public investment in college facilities through the $698 million voter-approved Measure M community bond program, changing demographics in Orange County’s college-going population, changing funding models for state support, rapid digitalization of business processes, and districtwide response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In facing challenges and opportunities, Dr. Dunn provided expert analysis and guidance for the Coast District based on a career in community college, K-12, and county governance that began in 1985.
At the Coast District, Dr. Dunn provided leadership for the budget, finance, accounting, purchasing, risk management, environmental health and safety, facilities, and information technology teams, while working closely with college, Enterprise, and Foundation leadership on a variety of initiatives bettering the experience of students, faculty, and staff. He further assisted with the development of excellence in higher education as an alumnus and adjunct faculty member of the Department of Educational Leadership at California State University, Fullerton.
“I had the privilege of working with the quiet changemakers, the people who spend every day solving problems behind the scenes to make sure that our colleagues have the tools they need to educate our students and serve our communities,” Dr. Dunn said. “I know the good work of these teams will continue, often quietly in the background, to empower the success of our colleges.”
Dr. Dunn was succeeded in the role of vice chancellor of finance and administrative services by Marlene Drinkwine, who began at the Coast Community College District, July 1, 2022.
