Cal State Long Beach launched its $275 million ‘No Barriers’ campaign at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach last night to the applause of hundreds of guests and VIPs.

The campaign announcement comes at a time of high institutional energy and momentum, particularly after U.S News & World Report recently ranked The Beach No. 3 nationally for promoting social upward mobility and No. 1 in the publication’s assessment of student outcomes.

“This campaign that we launch tonight is an invitation to you to think about how we, together, will create a national model for student achievement, empowerment, and equity; how we, together, can continue to shape and influence this state’s workforce; how we, together, will elevate our community and advance the public good,” said Jeff Cook, interim vice president of University Relations & Development.

The multi-year effort is the largest fundraising campaign in the university’s 73-year history.

“We understand the importance of preparing our students for a rapidly changing world of work,” said Jane Conoley, president of Cal State Long Beach. “We are committed to compassion, creativity and innovation.”

The campaign has several notable priorities: build a comprehensive approach to eliminate threats to student progress, enhance support services, and strengthen co-curricular programs; continue to attract and retain top faculty, better understand the needs of employers, and provide experiences and infrastructure improvements that bolster a Beach education; and deepen students’ learning experiences while enriching our community’s quality of life.

“When we’ve reached our goals, I envision having more scholarships, more well-supported professors; no student who is food or housing insecure; all students having a chance to study abroad, do research with their professors, accomplish a paid internship, and developing a strong sense of belonging to our OneBeach community,” said Conoley.
