Crean Lutheran High School’s standout linebacker Carter Jones, who recently completed his junior season, has made a commitment to play college football at University of California Berkeley, Saints Coach Rick Curtis confirmed Monday.

The 6-1, 225-pound Jones led the Saints to an 8-4 record and into the quarterfinals of the CIF playoffs. He was all-Empire first team is junior and sophomore seasons with Crean Lutheran. He also plays tight end.

“We’re all excited to see Carter Jones commitment to the University of California at Berkeley,” Curtis said. “Carter was one of the leaders in tackles in the state of California during the past season and has led our team to the CIF quarterfinals the past two seasons.

“Needless to say, we’re all excited to see what God has in store for him for his senior year. For him to be able to make a commitment to the Bears at this time is exciting for Carter and his family. Head coach Justin Wilcox is a defensive coach, being a defensive coordinator at USC and at other Division 1 schools, so he can spot defensive talent when he sees it.”
