Crean Lutheran High School’s football team recorded its second straight Empire League victory, defeating Pacifica 42-14 on homecoming Friday night at Crean Lutheran.

“Our team put in another dominating performance for the second week in a row in the Empire League before an overflow homecoming crowd,” said Saints Coach Rick Curtis.

Crean Lutheran (6-1, 2-0) now prepares for a battle for first place with Tustin (7-0, 2-0) Friday night at Crean Lutheran.

Crean Lutheran raced to a 42-0 halftime lead behind the strong performance of quarterback Jeremiah Finaly, who completed 17 of 21 passes for 274 yards and four touchdowns.

Ben Byszewski had two receptions for 68 yards and two touchdowns and Daylin Caamano and Carter Jones each caught two TD passes for Crean Lutheran.

Robert Smith had a 48-yard TD and Eli Bray a 2-yard TD. Crean Lutheran substituted freely in the second half.

The Saints defense was led by cornerback Troy Hill, linebacker Taurian Nash and defensive lineman Anthony Jones who Curtis said, “completely shut down the Pacifica Mariners attack.

“Michael Santos came on in relief during the second half and recorded six solo tackles to go along with a quarterback sack. Drew Schroeder added a QB sack as well from his defensive end position.

“It was a complete game performance by the Saints as kicker Connor Stephens again pinned the opponents deep in their territory. Stephens had six touchbacks on his kickoffs during the contest and was perfect on all six of his extra points.”
