Crean Lutheran boys water polo team gets ready for playoffs after winning league title

Crean Lutheran High School’s boys water polo team defeated Kennedy 25-5 this week to clinch the Empire League title for the second year in a row.

“We had 13 different players score a goal during the game,” said assistant coach Ryan Tunstall.

Sophomore Julian Amakasu led the team with 15 goals in league this season, five in the final game vs. Kennedy, 19 assists, 34 steals and two earned exclusions 

Sophomore Dillon Chanove had 14 goals, nine assists, eight steals and earned one exclusion.

Junior Mark DiPinto had 14 goals, eight assists and eight steals.

“It was a great overall team effort where a lot of our players contributed on both defense and offense,” Tunstall said,

The Saints will find out Saturday about their CIF playoff draw when pairings are announced.

“We are looking forward to seeing our seeding for CIF as we compete in Division 2,” Tunstall said. “We have moved up four divisions in two years after we won Division 6 in 2021 and lost in the quarterfinals last season.”
