Cozy Walk-In Closet Makeover by Raili Clasen in Newport Beach

California Closets reached out to Clasen to design a closet together—something she hadn’t focused on prior. “I was like, you know what, it’s about time,” says Clasen, who’s known for her “great design with a wink” style. Since her closet doesn’t have a door, she wanted it to be a bit of a showpiece with fun wallpaper and hardware. Because she has navy blue and wood throughout her home, she decided to incorporate that combination in this space as well, creating what she refers to as an “organic modern” look. railicadesign.com

DRAWERS
“We did our own custom pulls. I wanted something to (call back to) the wood portion of the closet.”

WALLPAPER
“I wanted wallpaper that was super-wild because the clothes were going to cover it, and if we did something tonal, no one would even notice.”

ACCESSORIES
“It was indulgent to have this big space, but we had nowhere in our home to put family photos or my husband’s collectibles.”

SHELVES
“The cowboy hats are what you look at; that’s our little artistic moment because they are so cool.”

RUG
“I wanted hard floors in there, but when I change clothes I want something yummy under my feet, so I got a wool knotted rug.”

HANGERS
“Don’t get a bunch of dry cleaning hangers mixed with plastic mixed with wood. Get the same uniform hanger. It adds to the style.”
