Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairwoman’s statement on Sinema discussion of bicameral framework on immigration reform

Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairwoman Nanette Barragán issued the following statement after Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) said that she is working with Senators and House Members on the framework for an immigration reform and border security bill. This comes after she led a group of Senators, none from the CHC, on a border visit last month to El Paso and Yuma.

“The Congressional Hispanic Caucus is bigger and stronger than ever, and so is our will to reach a deal on comprehensive immigration reform during the 118th Congress. Our members know firsthand what it’s like to live in the shadows of a broken immigration system – we all represent immigrant populations, documented and undocumented, and many of us are children of immigrants, immigrants ourselves or have friends, families and neighbors who have long waited for an opportunity to achieve the American Dream.

Any immigration reform bill must be negotiated by those of us with lived experiences who have dedicated our careers to advancing these policies. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus stands ready and is willing to do just that.”
