Incoming CIF Southern Section Commissioner of Athletics Mike West announced Friday that Colony High School Athletic Director Jerry De Fabiis has been named Assistant Commissioner of Athletics for the CIF Southern Section, effective July 1.
“I am excited to have Jerry De Fabiis join the rest of our team in the Southern Section office,” said West.
“Jerry has been a strong supporter and contributor to both the Southern Section and State CIF in the sport of basketball. He has been a member of the Southern Section Basketball Advisory Committee for 15 years and the state Basketball Advisory Committee for 10. He has helped organize and direct both CIF-SS and CIF State basketball championships over the years and has contributed his expertise on the CIF-SS Public/Private Committee.
“He has a passion for education based athletics and an enthusiasm for the position that we feel will benefit our whole organization as our newest Assistant Commissioner.”
De Fabiis has served as Director of Athletics at Colony since 2019. Before taking on the duties of athletic administrator at Colony, De Fabiis taught social studies and was head basketball coach at Ontario and Colony High School’s since 1998.
As a basketball coach, De Fabiis had more than 500 wins and his Colony teams were CIF-SS Finalists in 2005, 2008, and 2017, CIF-SS Champions in 2006, 2017, and 2019, CIF State regional champions in 2019, and league champions every year from 2006 to the present.
“I am humbled and excited for this opportunity to serve as assistant commissioner,” said De Fabiis. “It has always been an honor and privilege to work with the CIF Southern Section promoting and furthering education based athletics I look forward to working with new Commissioner Mike West and the entire office of the Southern Section to continue to serve our member schools and promote our student-athletes.”
