The Coast Community College District Board of Trustees voted to relax its vaccination and indoor masking rules at the end of the Spring 2022 semester, which concludes the last week of May. The Board adopted a position of strongly recommending vaccination, boosters, and indoor masking during its regular meeting on April 20, 2022.

“Trustees have acted repeatedly in the public health interest of all who learn, teach, work, and live in our District,” said Coast District Board President Mary Hornbuckle. “We continue to rely on our students, faculty, and staff to take the right steps to protect themselves and their families.”

For Spring 2022, Coast District vaccination rates reached 85 percent for on-site students and 90 percent for employees. Face coverings, i.e. masks, were required within Coast District buildings beginning in April 2020. The District also acted to provide for social distancing, increased airflow, and enhanced cleaning of common surfaces.

Readily available vaccines, improved medical therapies, and new public health guidance served as the basis of the Board’s action. Trustees committed to continue monitoring outbreak indicators and to take additional action as needed.
