At their Tuesday evening meeting, the Lakewood City Council approved the purchase of two video camera trailers that can be used to combat street racing and illegal dumping and provide other services.
Street racing and illegal dumping have increased recently across Southern California, including in Lakewood. The Lakewood City Council has indicated that it wants to do everything it can at the local level to combat these crimes and maintain and enhance the quality of life in Lakewood.
One tool recommended by public safety professionals is mobile video camera trailers that can be moved to locations experiencing such crimes. The video cameras will be solar powered and linked into Lakewood’s existing network of law enforcement security cameras that have proven very successful in identifying and locating wanted vehicles and suspects driving into Lakewood.
The two mobile camera trailers will cost $83,000, with funds coming from the federal American Rescue Plan Act and the city’s Neighborhood Safety Enhancement Plan.
