It is easier than ever for single-family homeowners in Irvine to make the switch to solar. The City of Irvine has implemented PermitsDIRECT! powered by Symbium, a web-based platform that makes it possible to get permits for eligible single-family residential solar and battery storage systems instantly.

PermitsDIRECT! powered by Symbium allows licensed contractors to submit permits for one battery storage system and rooftop solar systems no larger than 38.4 kilowatts without making a trip to City Hall. The platform verifies code compliance as well as contractor and business licenses in real time, expediting the approval and issuance of residential solar permit applications in Irvine. Permits can be paid online and are issued automatically, without manual review or an in-person visit.

The self-service customer portal helps Irvine take another step toward becoming carbon neutral by making it easier and faster to get solar installed. It also ensures the City meets the requirements of Senate Bill 379, which calls on California cities and counties to implement an online automated permitting platform that verifies code compliance and issues permits in real time for residential solar energy systems.
