SAGE HILL 59, BRENTWOOD 39: No. 2-seed Sage Hill played lockdown defense at home and defeated in the Division I semifinals Saturday night.

The Lightning host No. 4-seed Windward Tuesday night in the So Cal final with the winner moving on to the CIF state final in Sacramento Friday, March 14.

The Lightning opened up the game with a 12-0 run despite Brentwood’s full court press. Continuing to break the press, Sage Hill expanded the lead to 23-9 at the end of the quarter. Brentwood managed just three points in the second quarter and the game was essentially over at halftime with Sage Hill leading 37-12.

Brentwood cut into the lead in the third quarter, but Sage Hill managed to expand the lead to 50-23 going into the final period. The Eagles forced 10 Sage Hill turnovers in the fourth quarter, but it was too late to matter.

Sage Hill’s defense limited Brentwood to 27 percent from the field and just 15 percent from 3-point land. Sage Hill had a commanding 45 to 20 rebounding margin. Sage Hill did commit 23 turnovers to just 13 for Brentwood. Sage Hill shot a better 42 percent from the field despite shooting just 56 percent from the free throw line (15-of-27).

Sophomore forward Kamdyn Klamberg led Sage Hill with 21 points and eight rebounds.

Junior point guard Amalia Holguin netted 12 points to go along with seven assists and five rebounds. Freshman post player Eve Fowler had eight points and eight rebounds plus three blocks. Freshman Addison Uphoff also scored eight points.

Brentwood (27-9) was led by shooting guard Lev Feiman, who had nine points and four rebounds. Sophomore guard Reena White had eight points, five rebounds and seven steals. Senior guard Payton Sugar had eight points and four rebounds while her sister, sophomore guard Kelsey Sugar had seven points and four steals.
