CREAN LUTHERAN 9, PALOMA VALLEY 8: Crean Lutheran, which advanced into the playoffs as an at-large team, stunned No. 2 seed Paloma Valley Thursday on the road. Brennan Bates belted a two-run home run to lift Crean Lutheran to the win.

“I couldn’t be more proud of these guys taking the challenge against the number two seed who is 27-1 on the season,” said Crean Lutheran Coach Jake Haney. “The only chance we had was to let it all hang out and compete through all the adversity for seven innings. That was a really good team that we beat today and I feel bad for those guys, but I am beyond excited for our guys to get to play at least one more game.

“Brennan Bates with that big home run to give us the eighth and ninth runs provided the cushion we needed. That’s going to be a memory that he will never forget for the rest of his life.”
