On Saturday, November 19, 2022, at approximately 1:10 a.m., California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officers responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian hit-and-run traffic crash in the area of Katella Avenue and Magnolia Street.
The male pedestrian, a 30 year-old Long Beach resident, was walking southbound on Magnolia Street within the marked crosswalk at Katella Avenue, when he was struck by a pick-up truck traveling eastbound on Katella Avenue at a high rate of speed. Unfortunately, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. The identity of the decedent has not yet been released. The unidentified pick-up truck fled the scene following the crash.
The CHP Westminster Area is handling this investigation and is requesting the public’s assistance in locating the involved pick-up truck. Based on preliminary findings, the suspect vehicle is an older model, dark-colored pick-up truck, possibly a Chevrolet, which would have likely sustained significant front-end damage.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or has any information regarding a potential suspect vehicle, is encouraged to contact the CHP Westminster Area office during business hours at (714) 892-4426.
The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security.
