CHP investigates fatal traffic crash involving the Huntington Beach Police

On Saturday, August 27, 2022, at approximately 5:30 a.m., an officer with the Huntington Beach Police Department was responding to a radio call on North Pacific Avenue near Broadway in Sunset Beach, when they were involved in a traffic crash with a pedestrian.

The victim was transported to UCI Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash. The identity of the decedent has not yet been released. No officers were injured in this incident.

The city of Huntington Beach has requested the California Highway Patrol (CHP) lead the investigation. The CHP Westminster Area is handling the investigation with assistance from the CHP Border Division Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
