Celebrating Nancy Fagen’s 101 birthday

The Los Alamitos Senior Club Board celebrated longtime resident Nancy Fagen’s 101 Birthday on Thursday, April 28, 2022. The Ready, Set, Go! Preschool Program participants made a special visit and surprised Nancy by singing Happy Birthday much to Nancy’s surprise and delight. On May 16, 2022, the Los Alamitos City Council recognized Nancy with a formal certificate of recognition for her 101 birthday.

Nancy was born in Des Moines, Iowa on April 29, 1921, to Truman and Hazel Forrest.  Nancy had five siblings, Elmer, Dale, Lou, Leroy and Helen.  At the age of two her family relocated to Chicago due to her father’s employment in construction. The family returned to Des Moines, Iowa in 1932 due to the 1929 market crash.  Nancy’s father, an engineer, had drawn plans for their family’s new home.  The family set out to build their home and every member of the family except for the youngest daughter, Helen built the home from the foundation up.  The family enjoyed many years and memories living in their home. 

Nancy moved to California on September 15, 1946, with her husband.  They had five children:  Janice Lee, James Robert, Julie Lynn, Jerry Richard, and Jane Lorene.   On May 31, 1960, when the youngest child was two weeks old her husband died.  Two and a half years later Nancy married Elmer and the two were happily married for 46 years before his passing.  Elmer and Nancy lived in Lakewood, California for 57 years and later moved to Royal Oak Mobile Home Park in Los Alamitos, California.

Nancy’s sister is Helen Dix; a current member of Senior Club, her brothers and son James Robert have since passed.  Nancy has eight beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Nancy is a member of Order of the Eastern Star – Past Matron 60 Years, Past Queens Daughter Merritt of the Neil, and Los Alamitos Senior Club member since 2006.
