The Buena Park Library will celebrate El Día de los Niños/El Día de los Libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) on Monday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. with a live reading of Jeanette Winter’s Biblioburro followed by a time of decorating mini donkey piñatas. El Día de los Niños celebrates reading and children of all cultures around the world, and all children and their caregivers are invited to this free event in the library’s Donna Bagley Community Room.
Biblioburro recounts the true story of Luis Soriano, a teacher in Colombia, and his trusty donkeys Alfa and Beto. Since 2000, Luis, Alfa, and Beto have been traveling to remote villages in Colombia to deliver books to children who have little or no access to books. Luis began his “donkey library” with only 70 books—all from his own collection; his collection has grown, primarily from donations, and now has upwards of 7,000 titles.
