Corona del Mar’s baseball team clinched the Sunset Wave League title Wednesday, defeating Laguna Beach 13-2 at Laguna Beach.
CdM improved its record to 16-9 overall and 6-2 in league play.
Jack Bolt (6-3) got the win on the mound throwing five innings and striking out eight. He also led the way offensively going 1 for 1 with a bases clearing double in the second inning. Bolt had four RBI and was hit by a pitch and walked. Ethan Watson, Dennis Fitzpatrick and Dillon Gomez were all 2 for 3 at the plate for CdM, which had 11 hits.
“I am so proud of this team,” said CdM Coach Kevin McCaffrey. “Winning back-to-back league championships is so special. This is a really fun group of guys to be around. I love showing up every day as these guys do everything the coaching staff has asked of them.
“They push each other daily and are always looking to get better. I can’t say enough about this senior group. The seniors we have are really special. Most of the boys have been on varsity for two or three years and all their hard work has paid off and I am so proud of them. To watch them develop as players and men has been so rewarding.
“I am also really thankful to have such an amazing coaching staff. Brandon Trinkwon, Jon Green and Mike Gerakos have put in so much time with these boys. They have a passion for the game and getting these boys better. Their hard work has prepared our boys to be champions both on the field and in the game of life.”
The teams meet again Saturday at 11 a.m. at CdM.
