As Powerball® fever was sweeping the nation back in November, many California Lottery players dreamed of winning the big $2+ billion jackpot. While one player can claim that record-setting windfall, there were plenty of second-place prizes to go around. And in this case, that second-place prize was still worth more than $1 million!
Ana Contreras claimed her $1,149,661 prize on a Powerball ticket that matched five of six numbers from that historic November 7 drawing. That lucky ticket was sold at Stues Dairy in Gardena (Los Angeles County).
Players like Contreras, who bought tickets during that historic Powerball run, helped support the California Lottery’s mission to raise additional funding for public education in a big way. Public schools received $156.3 million just from that draw sequence that lasted three months, an all-time record in California Lottery history.
Stues Dairy gets a bonus of nearly $6,000 for selling that ticket, which was one of three that matched five numbers in that drawing.
