BRACKETS: Orange County girls basketball teams get ready for CIF playoffs this week

CIF officials announced the seedings and brackets for the CIF girls basketball playoffs that begin next week and a number of Orange County squads earned top four in their divisions.

There are 248 teams in 10 divisions for the playoffs, which begin with wild card games on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Opening round games are Thursday, Feb. 8. The open division begins on Saturday, Feb. 10.

The finals will be held on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24 at Cal Baptist, Azusa Pacific, Colony and Edison.

Trinity League champion Mater Dei (23-5) is seeded fourth in the open division and will host No. 5 Sage Hill in the first round of pool play on Saturday, Feb. 10. Sierra Canyon is first, Etiwanda second and Ontario Christian third.

Orangewood Academy is also in the open division as the No. 8 seed and will play at No. 1 Sierra Canyon Saturday. The second round of pool play will be on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Defending champion Orange Lutheran is fourth in Division 1, Fairmont Prep is fourth in Division 2AA and Orange League champion Anaheim is third in Division 3AA.

JSerra is seeded No. 1, Orange Coast League champion St. Margaret’s is No. 2 and North Hills League champion Villa Park No. 4 in Division 3A. Jordan is seeded third in the division.

Pacifica is seeded third in Division 4AA and Savanna is top seed in Division 5AA.

Other teams in the playoffs Thursday include Crean Lutheran, the Empire League champion. The Saints, who went undefeated in league, host West Torrance (18-10) in the 2AA division.

Also in the playoffs are Golden West League champion Godinez, which hosts Knight and the league’s No. 2 team Segerstrom, which hosts Huntington Beach in the 3A division.

Portola plays at Paramount in the opening round of the Division 1 playoffs. Woodbridge, an at-large team from the Pacific Coast League, plays at top-seeded Moreno Valley (24-3) in Division 2AA.

Beckman, the Pacific Hills League champion, hosts Murrieta Valley in Division 2A and Irvine, the No. 2 team from the Pacific Hills League, hosts Saugus Hills in Division 3AA.
