Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen was the highly popular face of American Catholicism for decades in the Twentieth Century. A cause for sainthood for Archbishop Sheen is currently active with the Vatican.
In these highly polarized times, I have found Sheen to be calm, forthright, unstinting in defense of the Catholic Church yet welcoming to non-Catholics, non-Christians, and even atheists.
As we continue towards the fall general election, here is a Sheen quotation to keep in mind:
Our hatred of a person often decreases as we learn to know him better.
This is the entry for June 4 from The Wisdom of Fulton J. Sheen: 365 Days of Inspiration.
