Dawn McCormack, Sunset Beach Community Association vice president, was shocked recently when she was walking her dog Cody along the greenbelt and noticed a coyote running from the beach toward her and a family with three children. When her leashed dog saw it and started to bark, the coyote was startled and jumped on a car, then jumped off and ran back to the beach where massive Labor Day crowds were enjoying their holiday.

Increased coyote activity during the day in Sunset Beach has resulted in the City of Huntington Beach posting an alert. A new coyote sign along the greenbelt between North and South Pacific Avenue near 25th Street informs people of tips on how to stay safe when in the area. You can also learn more on coyotes here.
