I sent a second letter last week to Governor Newsom requesting his veto on SB 357 (Weiner) which repeals the existing crime of loitering with the intent to commit prostitution and provides for dismissals and recalls of sentences for solicitation for prostitution convictions and sealing of the conviction records. SB 357 further removes penalties for a prostitution-related crime.
Essentially making prostitution legal in California, this bill will also exploits women, children and even men who are victims of sex trafficking.
By allowing this bill to become law, we take away important tools from our law enforcement officer to use to combat sex related crimes. These officers use these tools in order to save victims of human trafficking and target loitering with the intent of prostitution. This bill must be stopped!
