ANAHEIM, CALIF (April 9, 2022) – Anaheim Police investigators have arrested 31-year-old unincorporated Anaheim resident Andrew Pio on suspicion of attempted kidnapping.
On March 31, 2022, at approximately 2:45 p.m., the Anaheim Police Department Communications Center received several calls of a male trying to force a young female into a vehicle in the 2600 block of West Ball Road.
The 13-year-old victim was walking home from Dale Jr. High school when she noticed a male sitting in a parked truck. The male exited the truck, contacted the student, and tried to shove her into the passenger seat of the vehicle.
The suspect vehicle is described as a white pickup truck with a gray tool rack in the bed of the truck, possibly a Toyota Tundra or Ford F150.
On April 8, 2022, at about 2:30 p.m., Anaheim PD officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Pio in the City of Brea. The vehicle matched the suspect vehicle description from the attempted kidnapping. Pio was arrested after leading officers in a vehicle pursuit that ended after a spike-strip deployment by the California Highway Patrol, on the I-5 Freeway at La Paz Road. During the subsequent investigation Anaheim PD investigators determined Pio was suspected of the March 31 attempted kidnapping.
Investigators are not releasing a booking photo of Pio at this time as the criminal investigation is continuing and additional witness identifications may be pending. Pio is currently being held at the City of Anaheim Jail in lieu of $600,000 bail.
Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to call Anaheim PD Detective Jacob Medina at 714 765-1419 or OC Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
