ANAHEIM, Calif. (October 10, 2023) – Anaheim Public Library will host a community-wide reading event on the award-winning novel “There, There” by Tommy Orange. From October 14 to November 19, explore Native American culture and history with various activities for all ages.
The celebration will kick off on Saturday, October 14, at 11 a.m. at Central Library with a keynote speech from Virginia Carmelo, a leader from the Tongva-Gabrielino Tribe. The event will also feature children’s activities, including a Tongva language learning STEAM activity and a traditional dance performance.
Throughout the month, APL branches will host a variety of workshops and storytimes on Native American culture, customs, and history. Topics include soapstone carving, musical clapsticks, Native cooking, and California Native legends. There will also be a Native Arts Festival showcasing Native American artisans and artists at APL Founders’ Park at 400 N. West Street on Saturday, November 4th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We are excited to celebrate Native American culture and history with our community,” said Audrey Lujan, City Librarian at APL. “This event is a great opportunity to learn more about the rich and diverse heritage of Native Americans.”
