Anaheim Public Library Foundation Hosts First-Ever Juneteenth Celebration With Dance, Poetry, Music, and Soul Food
ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Anaheim Public Library invites the community to its inaugural Juneteenth celebration on Thursday, June 19, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Central Library, 500 W. Broadway.
Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Now a federal holiday, Juneteenth is a time to honor Black history, culture, and resilience.
This free, family-friendly event will feature dynamic dance performances by Dat Krew Academy, poetry readings by local poets, including Anaheim’s Poet Laureate, Camille Hernandez, and live music. Guests can also enjoy soul food from Georgia’s, while supplies last.
“We’re proud to host Anaheim Public Library’s first Juneteenth celebration,” said City Librarian, Audrey Lujan. “It’s a powerful opportunity for reflection, education, and unity through art, culture, and community.”
The event is presented by the Anaheim Public Library Foundation.
