ANAHEIM, Calif. (June 22, 2023) — More than 200 residents, including formerly homeless, have moved into 102 apartments at the new Finamore Place affordable housing community between the Platinum Triangle and Anaheim Resort Area.
Finamore Place is the 42nd affordable housing community in Anaheim and raises the bar for what new affordable housing in Anaheim can be.
In addition to providing homes for low-income individuals and families, the community provides onsite healthcare through a St. Jude Neighborhood Health Center and children’s services through Orange County Head Start and Child Guidance Center. Many services are available to both Finamore residents and the surrounding community.
Anaheim partnered with Irvine-based Jamboree Housing Corporation to bring Finamore Place to life, making it the eighth collaboration in Anaheim and an example of a successful public-private partnership.
“With the opening of Finamore Place, Anaheim has raised the bar on affordable housing communities” Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh Aitken said. “With a commitment of $14 million from the Anaheim Housing Authority, the city worked with Jamboree to create more than just a home for individuals and families. It’s now a place of belonging, comfort, support and so much more. For the kids living here, they now know what a home should look and feel like, and more importantly, the kind of home they deserve. Projects like this become a success through collaboration and we thank our community partners for joining our vision.”
Residents live in one-, two- or three-bedroom apartments with monthly rents between $762 and $2,114. Community amenities include a 17,000-square-foot community center, pool, rooftop deck, community garden, community kitchen, computer lab, playgrounds, activity rooms and sports areas.
The project cost $61 million to build with $14.2 million coming from Anaheim by way of federal HOME funds, waivers and rebates and a 55-year ground lease. The property sits on roughly 3 acres next to the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in the Ponderosa neighborhood.
The city also provided 20 project based rent vouchers for those formerly homeless.
Anaheim has a strong track record building affordable housing. Finamore Place is the 42nd affordable community in Anaheim. The city has 37 dedicated affordable and five communities with a mix of affordable and market rate.
Anaheim is home to more than 3,900 affordable apartments.
In coming months the city will mark the opening of Center of Hope with The Salvation Army, featuring 72 apartments providing long-term supportive housing for formerly homeless. The center builds upon with the exiting 325-bed emergency shelter and 175-bed drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.
In early 2024 we’ll see the opening of 86 apartments at Miraflores on Anaheim Boulevard just north of the Santa Ana (5) Freeway.
Each year the city provides $96 million in rent assistance through the Section 8 voucher program, supporting more than 6,300 households.
