Just after 10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue and Costa Mesa Police Department personnel responded to the report of a vehicle into an upscale men’s clothing store, Lubiani II, at 1794 Newport Blvd., in Costa Mesa.
Upon arrival, CMFR crews confirmed that a single vehicle collided with the commercial building, located in a strip mall, and they observed significant fire pushing out the front of the structure.
Due to the nature of the incident and the potential for substantial extension of the fire, as well as the potential for significant injuries, the fire response was upgraded to a 2nd Alarm Response.
CMFR firefighters quickly and aggressively attacked the fire, which was extending deeper into the structure and threatening adjacent structures.
In a coordinated effort, firefighters were strategic and successful in stopping the fire from extending into adjacent businesses.
One victim driving the vehicle was treated and transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries.
CMFR received assistance from our valued partners at Newport Beach Fire Department and FVFD, and CMPD, the latter of which played a notable role in securing the scene and high traffic areas.
The fire is under investigation by CMFR and all aspects related to the vehicle accident and any related law enforcement investigations will be handled by CMPD.
