A 65-year-old motorcyclist who was a resident of Santa Ana has died after being involved in a traffic collision, according to the Irvine Police Department.

Yesterday, January 1, 2025, at about 4:53 p.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) received reports of a collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle on Alton Parkway and Foster.

IPD officers and the Orange County Fire Authority quickly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they located the motorcyclist unresponsive in the roadway. Lifesaving measures were performed, but the rider succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the other involved vehicle, a gray Tesla, remained at the scene.

The rider’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Based on video obtained at the scene, it appears the Tesla made a left turn on a green arrow from northbound Alton Parkway onto westbound Foster. The motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Alton Parkway and rode through the red signal at Foster, colliding with the Tesla.

IPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating this collision. Anyone with information should contact Traffic Detective David Juarez at 949-724-7047.
