A murder suspect was fatally shot this morning after an SAPD police pursuit that ended at the Newport Pier

This morning at approximately 6:50 AM, the Newport Beach Police Department was notified that the Santa Ana Police Department was in an active vehicle pursuit entering Newport Beach.

The pursuit ultimately concluded at the Newport Pier.

The SAPD posted on X that “early this morning, our officers were requested by an outside agency to apprehend a homicide suspect in the City of Santa Ana.

SAPD officers located the suspect in a vehicle and attempted to apprehend him, at which point a pursuit ensued.

The pursuit ended in the City of Newport, where an officer involved shooting occurred. Our officers were unharmed during the incident. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

At this time, the scene has been secured and an investigation is underway.

There are no active threats to the community.

The Newport Beach Police Department appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as this investigation continues.
