A Huntington Beach man was arrested after a stabbing at a state beach

On Monday, October 14, 2024, at approximately 4:45 p.m., the Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD) received a request for assistance from California State Parks to aid State Park Peace Officers (SPP Officers) at the Bolsa Chica State Beach Visitor Center.

HBPD patrol officers responded to the scene, where SPP Officers had already detained an adult male suspect. A second adult male, suffering from stab wounds, was immediately transported by the Huntington Beach Fire Department to a local trauma center.

Detectives from the HBPD Major Crimes Unit also responded and took over the investigation. The suspect, 48-year-old Michael Ryan of Huntington Beach, was arrested and booked on one count of attempted murder (PC 664/187(a)). Michael is currently in custody with a bail set at $500,000. The victim’s identity is not being released.

This incident appears to be isolated. The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details are available at this time.
