The Golden Hawks (6-2, 2-1) are tied for second place in the league with Irvine. Segerstrom (3-5, 1-2) is tied for third place with El Toro.

“We played well enough to win, but still have a lot of things to improve,” El Dorado Coach Zack LaMonda said Saturday. “All three phases of the game need to get back to basics and get better this next week as we prepare to play Beckman High School.

“Defense played well, had some big stops; offense needs to not turn the ball over, but we were balanced on offense between run and pass. Special teams were good, but need to get better.”

El Dorado was led by quarterback Hudson Shaddow, who completed 12 of 21 passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns.

Justin Karg had five catches for 91 yards and two touchdowns and also had five carries for 52 yards. On defense, he had a tackle and an interception.

Darius Selway had 18 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown and eight tackles and an interception on defense.

Also on defense, Alonzo Anguiano had 15 tackles, five tackles for a loss and one sack and Christian Boyce had 11 tackles, two tackles for a loss and one forced fumble.

Segerstrom Coach Joseph Tagaloa said his team was prepared to face the Golden Hawks.

“We came into the game ready to go,” he said. “Unfortunately we missed some opportunities on offense which caused several drives to stall. As a whole we didn’t play up to our full potential, but we’re moving in the right direction.

“Offensively we had solid performances turned in by Eddie Anuu, John Fields, and Adrian Cervantes who had our touchdown.”

Josh Martinez made two field goals for the Jaguars.

“Defensively we gave a couple big plays, but guys were flying around. We were able to force a couple turnovers forcing a fumble and interception,” Tagaloa said. “Joshua Garcia went up in the end zone for the pick, while Jullian Hernandez led the team in tackles.

“We go on the road for the third straight week to take on a tough El Toro team. Our guys are looking forward for the challenge and can’t wait to get back on the field to compete.”
