Since its founding in 2003, CureDuchenne has invested in more than $27 million in research, clinical trials, and programs aimed at finding a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a fatal genetic disease that affects an estimated one in every 5,000 boys. And it’s events such as the group’s Annual Ladies Luncheon that help the nonprofit continue to support those important efforts, including the creation of a CureDuchenne Clinic at Rady Children’s Health Orange County. Shady Canyon Golf Club served as the backdrop for the fete, which included a pop-up shop and fashion show by Max Mara South Coast Plaza.

But the most moving moment was a special piano serenade of “What a Wonderful World,” performed by a 13-year-old living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. “This event beautifully blends community, compassion, and purpose,” says Debra Miller, founder and CEO of CureDuchenne, and a 2025 Kickass Women honoree. “Beyond the elegance of the day, every conversation and contribution moves us closer to life-changing treatments, and ultimately a cure, for families affected by this devastating disease. We’re deeply grateful for the generosity and commitment of everyone who joined us.”
