When it comes to messaging, Kacey Bruno is queen. She leads all company communications, social media, and influencer strategy for Montage International and its brands, including Montage Hotels & Resorts, Pendry Hotels & Resorts, and Montage and Pendry Residences. She creates strategic communication programs that support the company’s vision and business interests for each unique property. She’s also a member of the Forbes Communication Council and the Harvesters auxiliary group benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank.
Is there a habit or routine that has helped you achieve success?
I have been fortunate to work for a company that has allowed me to have a solid work/life balance. Being a mom to two boys and having a full-time career, it was always important for me to be able to take my boys to practice, go to their games, and still be able to manage my professional life. I have had a great team and leaders who have supported this, and I am so grateful.
Are there particular strategies that have helped you reach your goals?
Find mentors, listen more than you speak early on, and be willing to do the work that helps you learn, even when it’s behind the scenes. I am so grateful that I have had incredible mentors along the way, people who challenged me and took a chance on me. I was in entertainment PR for many years before hospitality. The entertainment industry taught me to never take no for an answer. I always do what I can to make something happen.
Any advice for people interested in having a career in your field?
Communications is all about storytelling, relationships, and trust, and those skills are built through experience, not shortcuts. Be willing to start at the bottom and learn. I think interning is a great way to learn about a variety of businesses and see what resonates with you. Take every opportunity to meet new people, network, and collaborate. I tell our team all the time, it’s all about networking and building not just relationships, but friendships.
