Kickass Women: Karla Vasquez


An interior designer turned restaurateur, Vasquez opened her first Chelas in 2011 while raising three young boys, trusting instinct, culture, and heart over formal culinary training.

Today, she operates three thriving restaurants: her original location in San Clemente, plus a Laguna Beach kitchen and a second San Clemente spot. Even more impressive, she opened two of those restaurants last year within weeks of each other.

What would you tell your younger self knowing what you know now?

Trust yourself sooner. Your intuition is your superpower. You don’t need permission or perfection to begin.

Are there particular strategies that have helped you accomplish your goals?

Showing up every day. Consistency, discipline, and always learning in real time moved me forward.

What was the worst advice you received?

“Wait until you’re more experienced.” Confidence comes from doing, not waiting.
