It was a night of hope and celebration for the guests who attended this year’s Alzheimer’s Orange County gala held at VEA Newport Beach. Dinner was sumptuous. The auction bidding was fierce. And the evening’s entertainment took a clever twist when the nonprofit’s president and CEO, Jim McAleer, took the stage to host a lighthearted and educational spoof on the 1970s television show “The Dating Game.” The contestants were played by a trio of local Alzheimer’s experts—Dr. Joshua Grill of UCI MIND, Dr. Dung Trinh of Healthy Brain Clinic, and Dr. Aaron Ritter of Hoag Hospital—who answered fun and insightful questions about brain health, all aimed at raising awareness about the importance of cognitive wellness.

“We are profoundly grateful to everyone who attended and supported this event,” McAleer said. “Their generosity contributed to a memorable evening that enables us to do more in ensuring no one faces dementia alone.” And 100 percent of the $650,000 raised from the event will be used to help fund local services, including a help line, support groups, care consultations, an adult day health center, and more.
