The City of Irvine invites the community to the opening of two new exhibitions at the Irvine Fine Arts Center: Swing Shift and Alisa Ochoa: Splinters. Both exhibitions will be on view November 15, 2025–January 17, 2026, with a free opening reception Saturday, November 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments.
Swing Shift is an interdisciplinary exhibition featuring contemporary artworks that explore the complex realities of labor in its many forms — formal and informal, domestic and industrial, highly visible and often unseen. The works on view reflect on the ways labor shapes daily life, creative practice, and collective identity.
Among the featured artworks are video reflections on the routines of preparing a home-cooked meal, sculptures that trace the human foundations of global supply chains, drawings that honor labor leaders, poetic interventions, and pieces that consider the creative dimensions of work itself. Participating artists include Anthony Almendárez, Francis Almendárez, Stephen Anderson, Jesus Cortez, Jessica Pons, Christy Roberts Berkowitz, Elena Roznovan, Molly Schulman, and Elise Vazelakis.
Presented alongside Swing Shift, Splinters showcases new work by Orange County-based interdisciplinary artist Alisa Ochoa. The exhibition debuts a single-channel video accompanied by sound and ceramic sculptures that reflect on the fragility of memory and the emotional traces of life’s transitions. Through themes of love, loss, and renewal, Ochoa’s work invites quiet contemplation on the passage of time and the shifting nature of our relationships.
Both exhibitions highlight the Irvine Fine Arts Center’s commitment to presenting thought-provoking contemporary art and supporting artists from Southern California and beyond.
