Estancia starter Nico Viramontes throws a warm-up pitch to catcher Sawyer Atkinson Tuesday. Game was stopped Tuesday and resumed Wednesday and Viramontes got the win. (PHOTOS: Tim Burt, OC Sports Zone).
Estancia High School’s baseball team advanced into the semifinals of the CIF So Cal Division IV playoffs with a 2-1 victory over Mary Star of the Sea Wednesday at Estancia.
The game was completed on Wednesday after a rain and lightning storm on Tuesday forced suspension of the game.

The third-seeded Eagles (21-13) will travel to Bakersfield Friday to play at Ridgeview in the semifinals. The game was moved to Friday due to Estancia’s graduation on Thursday.
Nico Viramontes (10-0) pitched a complete game, allowing one run, no earned, four hits and striking out one. Athan Perez was 3 for 3 with an RBI and a double, Sawyer Atkinson was 2 for 3 with a run scored and a stolen base and Vaughn McCrea was 1 for 2 with a run scored.
On Tuesday, Viramontes blanked Mary Star in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the inning, Atkinson reached on a single, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored when Viramontes was aboard on an error.
Then the rain came along with the thunder and lightning, forcing umpires to call both teams into their dugouts.
The game was resumed Wednesday where it was stopped on Tuesday.
In the bottom of the second inning, Athan Perez hit a two-out double that drove in Carlos Hauser, who had reached on an error, according to Estancia Coach Nate Goellrich.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, McCrea singled up the middle with one out. Hauser then walked. Perez singled to right field, scoring McCrea.
In the top of the seventh, Viramontes before allowing a single.
“On an 0-1 count we pitched out on a steal attempt and Sawyer Atkinson threw to second baseman Lincoln Silva for the out to end the game,” said Goellrich.
Viramontes pitched a complete game on 58 pitches, the coach added.
The regional final is on Saturday at 4 p.m. No. 5 Rancho Mirage plays at top seeded Banning Thursday at 4 p.m. Higher seed earns the home game Saturday.
