WHY: Founder and CEO of textile manufacturer FutureStitch, based in San Clemente with 20K-square-feet of production facilities in Oceanside. His first local venture was San Clemente-based Stance. Making socks, sleeves and knit footwear using Italian circular knitting machines for retail companies like New Balance, Toms and Crocs, FutureStitch can generate about $50M in annual sales. Shupe also founded a program called Second Stitch to employ and help rehabilitate formerly incarcerated people.

IN THE NEWS: Shupe is working on his second retail venture, called Seconds, to use reclaimed and repurposed materials to make apparel and accessories from felt using circular knit. Founded a new nonprofit Second Stitch Foundation to offer mentorship to older teenagers and young adults with justice-impacted family members or who have been incarcerated themselves.
