Orange County boys volleyball teams selected for inaugural CIF state championships

Orange County teams have been selected for the inaugural CIF Boys Volleyball State Championships, CIF state officials announced Sunday.

In past years, only a Southern California and Northern California championships have been held on the state level.

First round matches are Tuesday, second round Thursday and Southern California finals are Saturday, May 24 at host sites. The state championship finals will be held on held on Saturday, May 31 at Fresno City College.

The CIF State Championships consist of four divisions, with all regional matches held at host sites, according to state officials.

Matches start at 6 p.m.

DIVISION I

CIF Division 1 champion Mira Costa is the top seed and will host Beckman on Tuesday.

No. 5-seeded Newport Harbor plays at Torrey Pines.

No. 6 Corona del Mar plays at No. 3 Carlsbad.

No. 2 Huntington Beach, the CIF Division 1 runner-up, hosts No. 7 Redondo Union.

DIVISION II

CIF Division 2 champion Mater Dei hosts No. 8 St. Augustine.

CIF Division 3 champion Tesoro hosts No. 6 Canyon Crest Academy.

DIVISION III

Top-seeded Sage Hill, the CIF Division 4 champion, hosts No. 8 Sanger.

No. 5 Kennedy, the CIF Division 5 champion, plays at No. 4 Taft.

No. 7 El Toro, the CIF Division 6 champion, plays at No. 2 Santa Ynez.

DIVISION IV

No. 4 Brea Olinda, the CIF Division 7 champion hosts No. 5 Hacienda Heights Wilson.
