ANAHEIM, Calif. (April 15, 2025) — Anaheim and Honda Center have been announced as host court for indoor volleyball for the 2028 Summer Olympics.

The selection of Honda Center, a city-owned arena that can seat more than 18,000 people, was announced Tuesday by the Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Twelve qualifying men’s and women’s teams, including USA Volleyball, are expected to face off in preliminary, quarterfinal, finals and medals rounds over two weeks in Anaheim in July 2028.

“Olympic volleyball is coming to the right place,” Mayor Ashleigh Aitken said. “Anaheim has a long, storied history with volleyball and is the best place for the indoor sport in the 2028 summer games. We have supported Honda Center’s bid and are confident in Anaheim’s proven ability to host a great competition for athletes and fans from around the world. This is what we do — every week Anaheim hosts hockey, baseball, entertainment, conventions and theme park visitors. We have the venues and know-how to make this happen and happen well.”

Since 2006, Anaheim has served as a training site for the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team with athletes going on to medal in the 2008, 2016 and 2024 games.

In 2023, the Anaheim Convention Center hosted the Men’s Volleyball Nations League with Olympic athletes from America, France, Argentina, Germany and others.

The Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 will be Anaheim’s second games as a host city.

In the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, Anaheim hosted wresting with 20 contests among 44 countries at the Arena at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Honda Center is home ice to the National Hockey League’s Anaheim Ducks and also has hosted professional and college basketball, UFC events, arena football and other sports.

In 2024, Honda Center hosted AVP Pro Beach Volleyball on a sand court inside the arena.

More details about LA 2028 volleyball at Honda Center are expected later.

A host-city agreement with Anaheim is expected to be addressed in the months ahead.

As a visitor city, Anaheim expects to see economic benefit from the games as people stay in hotels, visit theme parks and dine and shop.

Each year, Anaheim sees more than 25 million visitors, who drive 65 percent of funding for public safety, community services and other city operations.

Anaheim stands ready to work with Honda Center and the Organizing Committee and to support the games with public safety, traffic management and other services.

Honda Center, which will be referred to as the Arena in Anaheim for the games, is served by Anaheim’s ARTIC transit center with rail, bus and rideshare service.

The arena sits alongside the Orange (57) Freeway and near the Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway.

The area around Honda Center is being transformed into OCVibe, a 100-acre development of entertainment, hotels, homes, offices and open spaces.

Parking structures are set to open later this year, followed by a concert venue and market hall in 2026 and other developments by 2028 and beyond.
